Safeguarding

As for all staff, the Designated Teacher should be aware of the statutory guidance for schools and colleges entitled Keeping Children Safe In Education.

In particular, the Designated Teacher should be aware of sections (96-99) pertaining to Looked after and previously looked after children. It is important that the Designated Teacher (DT) and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) meet regularly to share key information and ensure that the DSL has details of the child’s social worker and VSH in the Authority that looks after the child.

Each LA will have specific procedures for dealing with VEMT (Vulnerable, Exploited, Missing and Trafficked). It is important that all information on looked after children such as missing episodes from school and home is shared appropriately to maintain their safety.

If you have any concerns about a child, please contact the Children's Hub.
